The bark of the Betula Neoalaskana is thin, smooth, dark reddish-brown when young, becoming creamy white or slightly pinkish with age; peels off in papery layers (but not as freely as paper birch). I love the weathered colors and contrast of textures.
I spent two decades in front of the camera as a TV reporter and anchor. It wasn't until I retired from news that I picked up a camera myself, and fell in love.
