The vibrant, almost velvety red of these plumeria, or pua melia, makes you want to touch, and lean in to smell the fragrance.

I spent two decades in front of the camera as a TV reporter and anchor. It wasn't until I retired from news that I picked up a camera myself, and fell in love. Now, instead of reporting on the frightening, the frustrating and the tragic sides of life, I get to focus in on the beauty that surrounds me in Hawaii. Much of my photography centers on flowers in our tropical island paradise, which are plentiful, vibrant and popping with color. Lucky me.
